Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu stated that the government is closely monitoring ATF prices. While there has been some reduction in fuel prices recently, the government wants to ensure that this decline is sustained rather than temporary. He mentioned that discussions with airline companies are currently underway and the stability of prices is being assessed.

According to the Minister, the past few months have been quite challenging for the aviation industry. Rising fuel costs and international tensions had put pressure on airlines, prompting many companies to impose additional charges and hike fares. Now, if fuel prices remain under control for an extended period, the government will work with airlines to reduce the additional financial burden on passengers.

Government takes steps amidst US-Iran tensions

In view of the prevailing geopolitical situation and heightened tensions in West Asia, the central government has already taken several relief measures. The government has kept ATF prices for domestic airlines in check, provided relief on certain airport charges, and established a ₹10,000 crore price stabilization fund to offer assistance if needed. These measures aim to keep airline costs under control and prevent the burden of additional fares from falling on passengers.

However, the government has clarified that no immediate decision has been taken yet. It will first be assessed how sustainable the softening in crude oil and ATF prices is. If prices remain stable in the coming weeks and months, airlines could be asked to reduce surcharges and provide relief on fares.
