Delhi EV Policy 2026The Delhi government has released a draft of a new electric vehicle (EV) policy for 2026-2030. Its aim is to reduce pollution in the capital and promote electric vehicles. The policy focuses primarily on two-wheelers, but also includes cars, commercial vehicles, and fleet operators. The draft is currently open for public comment for 30 days. Let's find out what the new Delhi EV policy includes.
Delhi EV Policy 2026
Under the new policy, electric cars will not be directly subsidized. Instead, tax exemptions and scrappage will be provided. If the price of an electric car is up to ₹30 lakh, road tax and registration fees will be exempt, but if the price exceeds ₹30 lakh, this benefit will not be available. Furthermore, if you scrap an old BS-IV vehicle or older and purchase a new electric car, you can receive a scrappage benefit of up to ₹1 lakh.
Delhi EV Policy for Hybrid Cars
Hybrid vehicles haven't received much support in the Delhi EV policy. These vehicles will only receive a 50% road tax and registration fee exemption, and that too only if their price is up to ₹30 lakh. This means that electric vehicles are being promoted more than hybrid vehicles.
Delhi EV Policy for Electric Two-Wheelers
The Delhi government is focusing primarily on two-wheeled electric vehicles. Under this scheme, buyers will receive a subsidy of ₹10,000 per kWh in the first year, based on battery capacity, with a maximum limit of ₹30,000. This incentive will decrease to ₹6,600 per kWh in the second year, with a maximum benefit of ₹20,000. In the third year, the subsidy will further decrease to ₹3,300 per kWh, with a maximum limit of ₹10,000.
This benefit will only be available if the vehicle's price is less than ₹2.25 lakh. Additionally, an additional ₹10,000 benefit will be available upon scrapping an old vehicle. The biggest change is that no new petrol two-wheelers will be registered in Delhi after April 1, 2028.
Delhi EV Policy for three-wheelers and cargo vehicles
Electric auto rickshaws also receive significant benefits. The subsidies for these are as follows.
1. First year: Rs 50,000
2. Second year: Rs 40,000
3. Third year: Rs 30,000
Smaller cargo electric vehicles will benefit even more. The subsidies for these vehicles are as follows.
1. First year: Rs 1 lakh
2. Second year: Rs 75,000
3. Third year: Rs 50,000
Additionally, scrappage benefits will also range from ₹25,000 to ₹50,000. From January 1, 2027, only electric autos will be registered in Delhi.
